The Unfavored Principal Consort

She married the bravest man in the empire. She came from a background others envied, and lived what seemed to outsiders to be the happiest life imaginable. Then an accident revealed that he did not love her. He loved another woman. She stared blankly at the two of them locked in an embrace. Her happiness had all been an act, put on so he could marry that woman. Worse, she hadn't even had time to tell him she was carrying his child. Huangpu Hui had given her the deepest tenderness and affection. Only now did she realize that another woman lived in his heart, someone he loved with all his soul and would love until death. “Since you already know, there's no need for me to hide it. I love this woman, and I will love her until I die.” He looked at her haggard face and spoke as casually as if discussing the weather. “I've asked the Empress Dowager for permission. Yan'er will move in today and become my secondary consort. Prepare the new bridal chamber.” “Yes.” She smiled faintly and bowed. Suddenly, pain stole the words from her lips. # “You wretched woman!” A searing sensation swept through her body. She covered her still-numb cheek and stared blankly at the man before her, his face twisted with fury. “Guards!” He came at her again, gripping her pointed chin as if he meant to crush it. His voice rang out with a demonic shrillness. “You poisonous woman! You killed Yan'er's child. I want you to pay with your life!” “No!” The bitter medicine slid down her throat. She collapsed to the floor and retched. Tears mingled with the medicine and fell into the dirt, vanishing in an instant, just like her feelings for this man.
