Mermaid Tribulation

A long time ago, after Pangu created the world, an isolated island was born in a place in the East China Sea. Nuwa saw that the scenery on the island was beautiful and like a fairyland, so she created a group of people on the island. These people live contentedly and diligently on the island. Day after day, year after year, time passes silently, and the sea level gradually rises and submerges the island in the passage of time. In order to adapt to life in the ocean, the residents on the island evolved fish gills and tails, and turned into mermaids and swam into the sea. Many years have passed, and most of the mermaids died because they could not cope with the dangers in the sea, leaving only their only descendant, Meng Qianli, wandering alone in the ocean. Her obsession with land and desire for human companions prompted Meng Qianli to swim into the sea near the land. During the Daye period, Emperor Yang of the Sui Dynasty built the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal with Luoyang as the center because of his desire for enjoyment, but Meng Qianli swam into this river unintentionally.
