Dream of the Red Chamber: Jia Mu Reborn

This is the story of Granny Jia returning to the time before the events of Dream of the Red Chamber begin. Yuanchun is betrothed, Baoyu smashes his jade, and Granny Jia dies in a fit of fury. After becoming a wandering spirit and witnessing the Jia family’s downfall, the scattering of all the beauties, and Baoyu entering a monastery, Granny Jia returns to a time before the events of Dream of the Red Chamber have begun. Now that she has been reborn, her first task is to discipline her children and grandchildren, nipping disaster in the bud. She let Daiyu down in her previous life. Since she now intends to bring about the destined bond between the stone and the flower, she certainly won’t let Baoyu keep idling away his life and coasting on his title. Granny Jia isn’t all-powerful, and neither Xue Baochai nor Shi Xiangyun will be vilified. The characters won’t be reduced to caricatures. Of course, after Granny Jia is reborn, some things are bound to change Sister Bao is still the gracious, tactful Lord Hengwu; Sister Lin is still quick to take offense and refuses to let anything slide; and Baoyu still cherishes women and despises those greedy for profit and status. The characters and plot are kept as close as possible to the first eighty chapters of Dream of the Red Chamber. The story’s direction comes from the author’s understanding of the original novel. Some original supporting characters have been added to help connect the plot.
