A Smile in a Strange Paradise

Yan Xi had never had the chance to live with her parents. She had always depended on her loving grandmother, while her parents lived abroad with her older brother. The family reunited only on her birthday. So before she turned thirteen, Yan Xi wished she could celebrate her birthday every day, just to spend more time with her parents. She also worked hard to prove that she was every bit as good as her genius brother.

After she turned thirteen, though, she wished she would never have another birthday. Her parents failed to keep their promise that day, leaving her alone to witness her grandmother's death. The bloody scene became a nightmare she could never erase. With her heart dead to the world, Yan Xi stopped hoping for anything from her family. She spent six years wandering alone, enduring one misfortune after another until she became aloof and withdrawn. Six years later, after getting into college, Yan Xi ran into the brother she was related to by blood, as well as the man destined to be part of her life. And so a series of stories began...

If life really is a matter of adding and subtracting good fortune, then all the misfortunes of her first half were the price she paid to meet him, because he would be the greatest happiness of her second half.
