The Scheming Top Scholar's Concubine-Born Wife

On Shen Qin’s twentieth birthday, she made a wish: she hoped to live safely for another twenty years. She decided she would make the same wish every year from then on, so she could keep living safely forever. But then the stars fell from the sky, and she transmigrated. She wasn’t the heroine blessed by the plot, nor the supporting female character who would be tortured to death, but a beautiful, short-lived minor female character. Well, that was fine too. As long as she escaped the plot’s threats, a minor character should be safe. So Shen Qin went to great lengths to avoid getting caught between the heroine, the supporting female character, and the hero. All she wanted was to marry some safe, minor male character. But at some point, a dazzling passerby appeared, pretended to be poor and simple-minded, and tricked her into becoming his wife. 1. At Madam Jinghou’s birthday banquet, Shen Qin ran into the most handsome passerby in the original book. Remembering how curious she had once been about him, she couldn’t help taking a few extra glances. The handsome man turned around, smiled at her, and said, “Miss, could you give me the grass in your hand?” His beauty clouded her judgment. Shen Qin’s good sense ran away for three seconds, and the grass in her hand ended up in Yun Zhen’s. Yun Zhen walked away. Behind him, the gentle, beautiful vase of a woman suddenly roared, “You idiot! Who said jade-heart crabapple was grass?” 2. When Shen Qin married Yun Zhen, she followed him back to his hometown. There was a row of mud-walled houses, a little courtyard, and weeds growing alongside the vegetables. She consoled herself that she only had to stick it out for three years. Yun Zhen was a top scholar, after all. He was bound to make something of himself. Shen Qin stuck it out for three years. At last, she took their child and accompanied Yun Zhen to his new post. Well, look at those fine carriages and horses! If anyone called him a poor scholar now, she’d have words with them! The poor scholar, feeling unusually sheepish, rubbed his ear and said, “Well, a treasured sword is honed by grinding, and plum blossoms smell sweetest after bitter cold. Weren’t we working toward this all these years?” Furious, Shen Qin picked up her son and prepared to go back to her parents’ home.
