Jin Yu, daughter of the commandant of Jinyang City, was said to bring misfortune. She had been dressed as a boy since childhood. When war broke out between the Kingdom of Jinnan and Emperor Hua, the clever and gifted Jin Yu donned armor and took her father's place defending the city. A twist of fate brought her into the orbit of the unattainable Hua Shang.
Hua Shang possessed otherworldly beauty and had been famous throughout the land since childhood. His intelligence and vision were unmatched, and his status was incomparable. How much peerless grace was hidden in his cool, deep eyes? How much immortal beauty lay beneath his calm, restrained bearing?
On a battlefield filled with warhorses and flying sand, how would she use courage and intelligence to face countless enemy troops?
In a treacherous court, how would she use strategy and foresight to stand up to the imperial nobility?
Amid the schemes and rivalries of the inner household, how would she use her keen mind to take on wicked women and worthless men?
She was willing to fight alongside him to win a magnificent kingdom, and to stand with him on the battlefield through turbulent years. How could thousands of miles of mountains and rivers compare with her deep devotion? A place in the history books was worth less than a single smile from her, and ruling the world could never match the smallest thing about her. Witness the glorious rise of a great woman general, and savor the stirring romance of a prince's consort in a flourishing age!
A short scene:
It was a bright, clear day. Jin Yu hurried into Hua Shang's room, clutching an exquisite brocade box.
“Young Master? Young Master?”
Dressed in white as pure as snow, Hua Shang sat on a couch and asked calmly, “What is it?”
Jin Yu handed him the box and smiled shyly. “A present for you.”
Hua Shang took it and opened it. Inside lay a jade pendant carved with ordinary skill. It was pristine white and translucent, made of fine jade.
“Your carving has certainly improved. You put a lot of thought into this,” Hua Shang said, a trace of affection hidden in his eyes.
He accepted it! Wonderful! Jin Yu beamed and was just about to ask for a day off when Hua Shang suddenly interrupted. “Where did you get this jade?”
Jin Yu looked puzzled. “The jade? You mean that unused white stone on the redwood table in the storeroom? Nobody ever touched it, and it had such a strange shape, so I put it to good use.”
Hua Shang's heart sank. No wonder the color looked so familiar! Nobody touched it? He had ordered everyone not to touch it! A white stone? It was the unique white jade his father had bestowed upon him, a priceless treasure! A strange shape? Couldn't she tell it was a masterpiece of nature?
Hua Shang said solemnly, “Go to the military camp. Now.”
“The military camp?” Even at a gallop, it would take an hour to get there. There was no military business today, and she didn't want to go.
Hua Shang took a sip of tea. “As a return gift for the jade pendant you gave me, you can run there.”
Jin Yu wore a miserable look. He'd just praised her carving skills. How had he changed his mind so fast? Run there?
“Young Master...” Jin Yu gazed at him pitifully.
“Then go to Feng Mountain and pick me some fruit.”
Feng Mountain... Feng Mountain? She could run until tomorrow night and still not get there. Why would a prince of the court eat wild fruit anyway? Hua Shang's mind was as unfathomable as the ocean. Jin Yu turned and bolted.
The male and female leads are both healthy in body and mind, and full of virtue.
