The Shameless Matchmaker

After a matchmaker mocked Liang Xiaoxiao for being flat as a board and swore she'd never find a husband, she resolved to become the top matchmaker in Suzhou. She vowed that every woman, no matter her height or figure, would be able to marry and find a husband.

Her father objected and her mother protested, but it didn't matter. Her sister sneered and her younger brother jeered, but she didn't care! Liang Xiaoxiao was determined to stay on the matchmaker's path to the very end.

The official matchmakers blocked her from the front, and the private ones squeezed her out from behind. For three whole months, she hadn't made a single match. Her parents sighed, while her siblings mocked her. At long last, a client came along, but making the match was harder than climbing to heaven.

Liang Xiaoxiao gritted her teeth and steeled herself. What was the big deal? She only had to pair a plump young woman with the most eligible bachelor in Suzhou. It was nothing she couldn't handle.

And so began the farcical tale of a refined young gentleman pursuing a crooked little matchmaker.

Case One:

“I want to marry Young Master Feng Qing,” said the dark-skinned, plump young woman, clasping her hands as she dreamed of her prince charming.

Liang Xiaoxiao glanced at her uneasily and swallowed hard.

Feng Qing! Suzhou's most eligible bachelor. This was going to be difficult!

The plump young woman awkwardly handed Liang Xiaoxiao a banknote. “Here, that's three thousand taels. I'll give you another three thousand once it's done.”

Liang Xiaoxiao's eyes immediately lit up, and she grabbed the banknote. Three thousand taels! That was enough to buy a good house, make her parents see her in a new light, make her proud older sister respect her, and make her mischievous younger brother bow to her. Wow, everything she'd ever dreamed of was within reach...

She no longer cared whether arranging this marriage would be harder than reaching the heavens. The last scraps of her good sense were swept away by that banknote.

“All right, all right, I'll make this match happen!” Liang Xiaoxiao grinned from ear to ear, nodding like a pecking chicken.
