“The Second Miss of the Ren family jumped into the river...!”
The entire capital erupted. Teahouses, taverns, theaters, brothels, streets, and alleys all buzzed with the news.
When it came to the Ren family's Second Miss, not only was the capital in an uproar, but the entire kingdom of Lu had heard of her.
Men shook their heads, women sneered, and everyone applauded: What a lovesick fool, what an ugly woman, what a wicked woman. Good riddance, good riddance...!
Everyone knew the Ren family's Second Miss was a foul-mouthed cow, as stupid as a pig and as ugly as a ghost. She was a lustful fool who drooled like a waterfall at the sight of handsome men, and was cruel, ruthless, and wicked enough to do any evil. And yet this stupid, ugly, vicious woman was engaged to the dashing Prince Yu. What a criminal waste!
Fortunately, the lovesick fool knew her place and jumped into the river to end her life. How wonderful, how wonderful!
*
When her lovesick foolishness faded and her plain looks became breathtaking, the world was stunned. The swan spread its wings, the phoenix soared into the clouds, the world fell into chaos, and she stood supreme!
Whose heart would regret it?
Whose love would be left in pain?

[Scene One]
“You want your betrothal token back and to break off the engagement?” The woman narrowed her eyes and smiled ingratiatingly. Holding a golden abacus in one hand, she worked it briskly with the other. “One thousand taels for safekeeping, two thousand for the years of my youth, three thousand for bodily damages, four thousand for emotional trauma, and five thousand for mental anguish. That comes to fifteen thousand taels, not a penny more or less.”
Her smile widened as she held out her pale hand. “Pay the fifteen thousand, take your token, and we'll call it even!”
Who did Prince Yu think he was? So what if he was a prince? A man who judged people by their looks could keep his title. She wouldn't want him even if he were handed to her!
[Scene Two]
On a moonlit, breezy night, beneath a peach tree, a man and a woman raised their cups together.
“You want to marry me?” The woman looked at the man, notorious for his twisted nature, and smiled serenely. “How much is the bride price?”
An ugly woman marrying a madman. That sounded pretty good!
“I'll offer the wealth of a kingdom!” His voice was as clear as a spring, without the slightest trace of the viciousness people spoke of.
“Is that so...” The woman considered it for a moment. “Then come ask my family for my hand.”
“Gladly,” the man replied with great enthusiasm.
The woman leapt away.
The man suddenly called after her, “But... you have to tell me whom I'm marrying!”
The woman's silvery laugh rang out. “I am Ren Qingfeng, the most hideous woman in the world, guilty of every imaginable crime!”
This is a one-couple story with an overpowered heroine and an even more overpowered hero. Neither is a good person; both are willful and self-centered. No debates about values, please, and no angry comments. If you don't like it, move along. Let's all get along!
