In her previous life, she was thrown off a towering cliff because she had failed to bear her husband a child in ten years of marriage. Her in-laws’ cruel voices echoed through the ravine: “A barren hen is better off dead.”
When she opened her eyes again, she had returned to the past. She swore that even if she remained unmarried for the rest of her life, she would never go back to that family!
The Pest Plague
“Jinxiu!” Uncle Kang stared anxiously at the fat grubs crawling over the crops and shouted at the little girl standing before him, her hair tied in two tufts. “What do we do? What do we do?”
Jinxiu calmly took her younger brother’s hand and pointed to the cotton field. “Remember, this is what we’re having for dinner.”
A swarm of little kids, none of whom had their pants sewn up at the crotch yet, rushed into the fields to help “prepare dinner.”
Year 33 of the Great Shang: The locust plague in Qishan was wiped out.
Gambling on Jade
“Jinxiu, how much can this rock be worth? We’d be better off buying some candied hawthorns to satisfy you and your brother.” Her father looked at his daughter, who had come of age. “We could...”
“Father, with this, my brother can go to school this year. No, we can afford food for the whole family...” Jinxiu said softly, looking at the round, rough stone before her.
Year 40 of the Great Shang: Gambling on jade became all the rage in Qishan.
The Wedding
“Jinxiu, from today onward, you are the empress of the Great Shang Dynasty!” he declared, his face beaming as he embraced her. “From now on, you’ll be the only one in my harem. Your family will be granted the imperial surname and enjoy glory for generations!”
Jinxiu smiled and wrapped her arms around his waist. His unique dragon-incense scent filled her nose. “Together in this life, until our hair turns white.”
Year One of the Jinshang Era: Every trade flourished, and the realm prospered.

Back then, he was a fallen, carefree prince. He met a little girl with bright, lively eyes, and fell deeply in love. He would brave mountains of blades and seas of fire, even lowering himself into the mud to gather lotus roots, all just to make his beloved smile.
I hold a realm stretching ten thousand miles in my heart, yet all I wish to do is walk among mountain flowers, hold the rosy clouds in my hands, and adorn the window lattice for you.
