This book starts from the proposition of the legitimacy of literature and art highlighted by Hegel's theory of the end of art, and believes that since Plato, truth has been pointed to as the spiritual essence that makes literature and art possible. However, neither the universality of this proposition nor the ambiguity of the use of the concept of truth can be convincingly justified. This book introduces the perspective of power to the study of the legitimacy of literature and art. The book is divided into three parts: the first part puts forward the concept of literary power, combines it with the concept of capital, and analyzes its constitutive conditions and mode of action from a sociological perspective; the second part, the author combines the history of communication media to examine the historical evolution of literary power, and concludes that literary power is determined by the proportion of literature as symbolic capital in the field of representation; the third part focuses on how political capital and economic capital invade the literary field, and at what level constitutes the legitimacy crisis of literature.
