The New Poetry Anthology has had an important influence in the process of dissemination and canonization of modern vernacular new poetry. The earliest known anthology of new poems, "New Poems (Part 1)", was published in January 1920, two months earlier than Hu Shi's "Anthology Collection". Compared with the publication of personal poetry collections, various "new poetry anthologies" that collected new poems from various schools not only had a profound impact on the literary world at that time, but their research value deserves the attention of today's scholars. However, anthologies of early vernacular poetry are still scarce documents and have never been seen by most readers except for a few poetry literature experts. "Three Selections of Early Vernacular Poems" includes "Collection of New Poems (Part 1)" (published by the Publishing Department of the New Poetry Society in January 1920), "Selected Collections of Classified Vernacular Poems (One: Five Hundred New Poems)" (published by Shanghai Chongwen Bureau on August 8, 1920) and "Annual Selections of New Poems (1919)" (Published by Shanghai Yadong Library in August 1922), these three poetry anthologies are the earliest known vernacular poetry anthologies, and their selections are precisely the new vernacular poetry of the "May Fourth Movement" period. These three documents are of great benefit to poetry lovers and modern literature researchers in re-understanding early new vernacular poetry. For the convenience of readers, this book has reorganized and arranged the original works while converting them into traditional and simplified versions. While complying with the new publishing standards, this book presents these three poetry selections as closely as possible to the original text for the enjoyment of readers.
