In the following more than ten years, revolutionary armed uprisings continued continuously. The Wuchang Uprising and the independence of various provinces in 1911 directly ended the rule of the Qing Dynasty and announced the end of the imperial system. In 1912, the Republic of China was established. When China was expected to become a democratic republic, Yuan Shikai's restoration and proclaiming himself emperor once again abandoned the democratic republic.
