Postcolonial Theory

Introduction to "Postcolonial Theory": Western anti-colonial thought is as old as colonial history. Early Western anti-colonial thought can be roughly divided into two types: one is humanitarian moral criticism, and the other is liberal economic criticism. The former can be represented by the article "A Short Account of the Degtruction of America" written in 1542 by Bishop Las Casas, who is known as the father of European colonialism criticism, and the latter can be represented by Adam Smith's "The Wealth of Nations" written in 1776. It should be said that Marxism in the 19th century both inherited and surpassed the two European intellectual traditions of humanitarian moral criticism and liberal economic criticism. Economically, Marx and Engels contradicted Adam Smith and others who believed that colonialism could not benefit the mother country, and believed that Western capitalism was fundamentally a product of colonialism.
