This book conducts a systematic exploration of medieval Taoist immortal biographies from a literary perspective. First, on the basis of a comprehensive examination of the basic documents of medieval Taoist immortal biographies, systematically comb the evolution process of medieval Taoist immortal biographies from the formation of the Han Dynasty to the maturity of the Wei, Jin, Sui, and the Tang and Five Dynasties, and summarize the characteristics of each period of immortal biographies; second, combine religious studies, cultural anthropology, and narrative science and other related theories, conduct interdisciplinary research on medieval Taoist immortal biographies, involving the style of immortal biographies, story types, narrative themes, prototypes, motifs, etc.; Thirdly, summarize and extract the Taoist history and literary value of medieval Taoist immortal biographies, which has certain theoretical value for promoting the research on the relationship between Taoism and literature.
