Let History Have "practice": a Journey of Historical Anthropology Thought

Zhang Xiaojun

"Historical anthropology" originated from the third generation of scholars of the French Annales School in the 1970s. It is an interdisciplinary field that draws on theoretical methods from anthropology and other disciplines to conduct historical research. It entered China in the 1990s and influenced the historical research on regional society in South China. This book sorts out the theoretical methods of historical anthropology and some of its theoretical contributions in South China studies, summarizes the theoretical framework of historical substantive theory, subject theory, process theory, and practice theory, and attempts to think about historical research from the perspective of anthropological "practical theory." The content of this book involves historical agents and their active practices, capital and symbolic practices in historical construction, and the co-subjective practice of "literary revival".
