As an important border town in the north and south, the Kingdom of Gaochang is located deep in the hinterland of the mainland. It developed from a fortress to a county, and then to a country. On the land of Turpan in the Western Region, Gaochang, based on its hub-like geographical location, has gone through three historical periods: Gaolu Wangtong, Tang Xizhou and Gaochang Uighur Kingdom. It was both ruled by the Han government and led by the Uighurs.
