The two novels in "The Big Cold", "The Big Cold" and "Pingyong", are both novellas about the fate of women, focusing on women's life experience and growth process. "The Big Chill" describes the different but surprisingly similar destinies of four women of different ages. "Ordinary Years" focuses on the real life in rural areas that consumes and tramples on three generations of women in a family. The subtle feelings between mother and daughter are presented in the text, and maternal love mixed with hidden hatred is repeatedly passed down to the daughter. In the end, the two generations of women reached reconciliation amidst the torrent of time and individual struggles.
