Lectures and Liaozhai
Literature讲演聊斋
Zhan Yinming
The development of Beijing-flavored novels has a long history. In the Beijing literary world at the end of the Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic of China, famous newspapers headed by Peng Yizhong opened up a broad stage for novelists to display their talents in vernacular newspapers. Beijing-flavored novelists represented by Xi Gong, Jian Dan, Leng Fo, and Ru Gai came to the fore and created thousands of Beijing-flavored literary works. They were enthusiastically sought after by the general public in the Beijing-Tianjin area. Their creative achievements have also become a highlight in the development history of Beijing-flavored literature. "Comments on Liaozhai" written by Zhan Yinming, was a serialization of storytelling published in "Qunqiang Daily" during the Republic of China. Each issue takes a paragraph from the original text of "Liao Zhai", followed by vernacular commentary, including perfunctory stories, explanations of the original text, gags, etc. The language is popular and humorous, written in spoken language, and contains a large number of spoken language components of old Beijing dialect. It is of great material value to researchers in the fields of linguistics and literature. This book selects five Liaozhai stories: "Chen Xijiu", "Xihou", "Frog God", "Yun Cuixian" and "Yaksha Kingdom". It is organized by proofreading and annotating to make it easier for readers to read.
