Beijing-style literature is an important school of modern Chinese literature. After the May 4th New Culture Movement, Chinese culture and Chinese literature formed a discourse field where hundreds of rivals competed. This book attempts to elaborate on the narrative stance, narrative strategies and narrative methods of Beijing School literature through comparative analysis with various discourses and in the three-dimensional coordinates of history and era, traditional culture and Western culture. When Beijing-style writers examine how history should realize the narrative transformation of modernity, they always maintain a culturally sober attitude towards tradition and the West, so their works present a melancholy poetic quality in aesthetics. The cultural introspection consciousness of Beijing School literature fully absorbed the positive nutrients of the May Fourth culture. It was obviously different from the pragmatism and utilitarianism that was popular at the time, and it had a profound and endless sense of cultural awakening.
