Railways and the rights-of-way issues surrounding railway sovereignty and interests are a major topic in the study of modern Chinese history. Starting from the particularity of the Northeast Railway in railway development and disputes over rights of way, this book takes the Feng Clan group headed by Zhang Zuolin and Zhang Xueliang as the protagonist, focusing on the main line of the railway, to explore the basic process of railway construction and its successes and failures, the effect of the railways led by the Feng Clan on the modernization process of Northeast China, and the long-term disputes between the Feng Clan and the Soviet Union and Japan over the rights of way in the Northeast. It reveals the complex face of the Northeast Railway issues before the September 18th Incident.
