"Experiencing Modern China" is an oral history book edited by Yang Shanhua, professor of the Department of Sociology at Peking University. The 100 years of the 20th century have been a 100 years of earth-shaking changes in China's urban and rural society. When the entire society undergoes drastic changes, Chinese society actually does not show obvious ruptures, but still reflects a kind of continuity. This is largely because such social continuity is manifested through the continuity of people living in Chinese society across different eras. This book records such a period of urban life history buried in the memories of ordinary people.
