Research on Dongba Narrative Tradition

Yang Jiehong

254K0

The Dongba narrative tradition uses Dongba religious beliefs and ritual practices as the narrative driving force, religious narrative as the core feature, mythological narrative as the expressive feature, and oral narrative and ritual performance as mutual texts. This book combines oral formula theory, performance theory, and ethnographic theory to explore the origin, inheritance, circulation, and characteristics of the Dongba narrative tradition. Through an in-depth description of the performance of Dongba narrative texts in sacrificial rituals, it reveals the intertextual and mutual construction relationship between oral texts, written texts, ritual texts, and performance texts in the people's lives and spiritual space. Through a comparative study of the Dongba narrative tradition and the narrative traditions of the Yi, Tibetan, Zhuang and northern epics, we conducted an in-depth discussion and reflection on the current folk narratology, epic concepts and types.
