This book is dedicated to studying the causes, appearance and path of transformation of family ethics narratives in Chinese novels from the late Qing Dynasty to the May Fourth Period. In addition to carefully sorting out the specific changes in family ethics concepts between the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China and the May Fourth period, this book also conducts a detailed comparative study of family ethics writing in novels during this period, in order to gain a more macroscopic and in-depth understanding of the evolution of family ethics narratives in novels during these thirty years, and to clarify the complex state of inheritance and variation, moderation and radicalness, and the mixture of new and old, so as to carefully consider the difficult process of the transformation of family ethics into modern times.
