In the 1960s, China was still a country dependent on rubber imports. It took 20 tons of rice to buy 1 ton of rubber from abroad. Rubber is an indispensable material for the country. From a pair of rubber shoes to car wheels; from a conductor wire to an industrial parking lot; from strategic equipment to artificial satellites, rubber is used. When China was in urgent need of and short of rubber, a group of scientists headed by Zhou Wangyue developed a world-leading new technology product in the rubber industry - butadiene rubber, which created huge wealth for the country.

"The Carved Bed" is a collection of short stories and short stories by the writer Xue Yuanyuan, including the novellas: "You are going to Beijing", "The Name Embedded in Dahongshan", "The Carved Bed", "One Person's Limit", "Life Goes On" and "Grandma's Story"; short stories: "Hunan Embroidery Cheongsam", "Midnight Train", "Rootless Plantain", "Tonight, There is a Frog Croaking" and "Lengthening Her Life". Among them, "Hunan Embroidery Cheongsam" entered the 2007 Chinese novel rankings and entered the final evaluation of the fifth Lu Xun Literature Award; "Midnight Train" and "Carved Bed" were translated and released in Japan, South Korea and other countries; "You Are Going to Beijing" and others were adapted into film and television works.
