Based on a large number of original documents, this book uses time as its warp and "Water Margin" research topics as its latitude, and systematically sorts out the research on "Water Margin" over the past 400 years since Jiajing in the Ming Dynasty. The book is divided into the following parts: The "Introduction" part explains the reasons for selecting the topic and the current research status. The first chapter is "Research on "Water Margin" in Ming and Qing Dynasties", which mainly discusses the research on "Water Margin" in Rong Yutang's version and Jin Shengtan's commentary version, as well as the literati's notes in Ming and Qing Dynasties. The second chapter is "Modern and Modern Research on "Water Margin"", which mainly analyzes and introduces the research results of modern scholars, especially Hu Shi, Lu Xun, Zheng Zhenduo and others. Chapters 3 to 5 are an introduction and analysis of the research on "Water Margin" since the founding of New China, with a rather detailed review and analysis from five aspects: the book, author, edition, text and comments. Finally, the "Appendix" section briefly introduces the research status of "Water Margin" outside mainland China, while the "Remaining Discussion" summarizes the research status of "Water Margin" over more than 400 years and looks forward to the research on "Water Margin" in the 21st century.
