This book is Xi Song's first collection of short stories and the culmination of his novel creations. The book contains seven novels written by Xi Song when he was young. The seven novels are different in writing. They include mythological novels that use the shell of myth to reveal the suffering of life and focus on people's different choices in suffering situations, such as "Nezha in the Gods List" and "Seizing Water"; there are also mythological novels that explore the family and workplace roles of young and middle-aged male and female protagonists in modern cities. Realistic works that explore the limitations and values of life through the perspective of color, such as "Hibiscus in Bloom", "Wu Li Jinfeng's Sunday", "Little Ruby on the Swing" and "Sickness"; there are also youth writings that tell the story of the passionate youth between cousins, such as "Two Brothers". The abandoned child complex and compassion prevalent in the novel are not only derived from the author's personal experience in his early years, but are also inseparable from his ideological turn to Buddhism in his middle age. Although the seven novels have different styles, they express a consistent theme, which is to pity the suffering in the world, reveal the goodness of human nature through people's choices in suffering, and explore the ultimate meaning and value of being human.
