This book contains several articles by the author on reading ancient literary classics or modern academic classics. Many of them are casual conversations that span his own major, so the author considers himself to be "talking about it". The book is divided into three volumes: the first volume is about casual conversations about pre-Qin, Tang and Song poetry; the second volume talks about modern writers, mostly focusing on their relationship with the classics; the third volume is about reviews of classical literature research or modern literature research, and is also related to the classical academic tradition.

"Jitang Congtan - A Collection of New Literature Essays" is a collection of special research essays on modern and contemporary Chinese literature. It analyzes Lu Xun's "Diary of a Madman", Mao Dun's "Spring Silkworms" and "Midnight", Liu Qing's "History of Entrepreneurship", Lu Yao's "Ordinary World" and Ge Fei's novels such as "Looking at the Spring Breeze" have been interpreted in a unique way; poems and related documents by Feng Zhi, Liu Mengwei, Lao She, Fei Ming, He Qifang, Qian Zhongshu, Bian Zhilin, Wu Xinghua and Zhu Yingdan have also been uniquely excavated and analyzed in detail.
