"Beyond the East City" is a collection of contemporary essays, including more than thirty essays written by the author Xie Xinyuan. The work is based on the author's childhood and adolescent memories outside his hometown of Dongcheng, and narrates a series of stories about the scenery and people in his hometown, either looking back at time and expressing emotions about his hometown, or looking forward to life and moving toward the future.
