Middle English Arthurian literature is the result of the long-term development of various historical, cultural and literary factors in medieval Europe and Britain. It is an important component of European medieval literature and a very important cultural and literary heritage of Britain. It flourished during the formation period of the English nation and achieved very high literary achievements. It carries the spirit, ideals and values of the English nation and has become the cultural gene of Britain and even the English-speaking world. This book is a comprehensive and systematic study of Middle English Arthurian literature. This book first discusses the origin, nature and development of romantic romance literature, the most important narrative genre in the middle and late Middle Ages, as well as the origin and evolution of the European Arthurian legend. On this basis, it then conducts a detailed and in-depth analysis of all existing Middle English Arthurian literary texts (including fragments). The main works are studied in special chapters. During the research, this book is committed to analyzing the content, artistic characteristics and achievements of the text itself in the historical and cultural context of the Middle Ages. It also focuses on exploring the rich historical and cultural information of King Arthur literature and revealing the Englishness embodied in the works, in order to examine the inner connection between Middle English Arthurian literature and the formation and development of the English nation.
