Liu Bannong was a pioneer of China's New Culture Movement, but in the early days of his literary career, he wrote a certain number of detective novels in vernacular and classical Chinese under the pseudonym "Bannong", and participated in the translation of many foreign detective works. "Collection of Liu Bannong's Detective Novels" includes the short detective novels "Dagger" and "Tan'e" in the series of classical Chinese short stories written by Liu Bannong, "The King", the vernacular detective novel "Wig" based on his early experience in the New Drama Club, and the "Holmes Detective" imitation "Holmes Failed" (a total of five cases), showing the characteristics of Chinese detective novels in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China.
