It tells the story of a five-star chef from Guangzhou, China, who survives in the Nordic polar night. Wang Sheng experienced the triple collapse of his identity, skills, and dignity in Sweden. Until they met a Fujian woman who had been struggling in Sweden for fifteen years and was wanted to cut off by her biological son as a "complex background". Two lonely souls abandoned by their respective pasts used a frying pan, a shabby shop, and a bowl of braised pork with tangerine peel to survive in the cracks of the gravel in a foreign land. This is a novel about exile and survival, failure and reconstruction. It not only writes about how a person survives, but also how a soul grows roots again in a piece of ice and snow that refuses to melt. With poetic brushwork, cold observation and hot emotions, the novel cuts through the undercurrents under the bright surface of the Nordic high-welfare society, and writes about how those marginalized people who have no tax numbers, no names, and may be "erased" at any time, guard the last warmth of human beings at the lowest point of existence.
