During the Shaoxing period of the Southern Song Dynasty, in Lin'an City, Shen Qingyi, a talented girl from a scholarly family, met Gu Huaijin, a general queen, on the Broken Bridge of the West Lake and fell in love at first sight. The two sang poems together and made a private decision for life, looking forward to a bright future of growing old together. However, the situation in the DPRK suddenly changed, Qin Hui came to power, and the war faction and the peace faction fought fiercely. Gu Huaijin was demoted to Jianghuai for his remarks on war, and the two were forced to separate. Qingyi watches day and night in Lin'an, looking forward to her lover's return. In the spring of the twelfth year of Shaoxing, the Jin soldiers invaded the south in a large scale. Gu Huaijin led his army to fight against them, and started a fierce battle with the Jin soldiers in the Suzhou area. In order to cover the retreat of the army, he personally cut off the rear and was hit by several arrows. He died heroically at the age of only twenty-three. When the bad news came, Qingyi was heartbroken. She remained filial piety for Gu Huaijin for three years and remained unmarried for forty-four years, devoting all her efforts to poetry creation. Her poem "Misty Rain Ci" was passed down to later generations and became a treasure of the Southern Song Dynasty poetry world. This is a tragic story about love, family and country, and life.
