This book uses a chronicle method and style to study and sort out the history of the creation, dissemination, and acceptance of Chinese essays from 1978 to 1982, as well as its experiences and lessons. The main contents include: 1. Important political, ideological, and cultural policies; 2. Social trends of thought, ideological movements, and cultural developments that have a significant impact on the development of essays. 3. Representative essay concepts, debates and construction of essay theory; 4. Essay style and development of essay art; 5. Essay writers' interactions (societies, school activities, etc.); 6. Life stories of important essay writers; 7. Creation/writing, publication and review of important essay works and research results; 8. Others. Trying to return to the first-hand information, through the excavation, arrangement, collection, and compilation of the original materials, to obtain as detailed and complete as possible accurate and informative historical materials. On this basis, through the screening and selection, comparison and listing of these historical materials, a logic and order of literary history that "speaks with facts" are constructed. This kind of logic and order is not based on opinions to "glue" historical materials, but on the connections between historical facts. The author's opinions and evaluations are implicit in these historical facts and the relationships they establish.
