This book reveals the inherent cultural significance of the contradictions and differences between Lu Xun and Gu Jiegang through the analysis of historical concepts, academic thoughts, the concept of honor and disgrace (the concept of face) and the alleged incident of Lu Xun's "A Brief History of Chinese Novels" plagiarizing Yangu Wen's "Speech on an Introduction to Chinese Literature" , pointed out that the contradictions and differences between Lu Xun and Gu Jiegang were actually formed in the differences and contradictions between Lu Xun's modern cultural concepts centered on the "idea of establishing people" and Gu Jiegang's cultural concepts of elite intellectuals in modern Chinese colleges formed during his education.
