A Tale of Two Cities: a Study of Urban Geography in the Ming, Qing and Qing Huai Regions

Wang Congming

283K0

This book is a case study on the history and geographical changes of canal cities. It takes Huai'an Prefecture in the Ming and Qing Dynasties as the research object. By collecting and quoting rich literature and materials, based on the geographical concept of "Qing Huai", and relying on the two major research perspectives of spatial structure and urban system, it deeply excavates and interprets the relationship between Shanyang City and the city. The historical space of Qingjiangpu and the "waterway-city" model formed by the canal, the Yellow River, and the Huaihe River explore the proposition of the transfer of regional urban centers and the formation of a new urban system under the influence of factors such as national water transportation and river management, thereby displaying the rather complicated development history of canal cities.
