My grandma was born during the Republic of China. This woman whose feet were wrapped in three-inch golden lotus had an ordinary life. As a middle-aged widowed woman, ever since a donkey brought her to the thick yellow soil of Baijiawa, she has become the master of this loess plateau like thousands of rural women, and has taken care of her children and grandchildren all her life. My parents initially lived a rotten life of eating one meal and worrying about the next. The birth of the three of us one after another made the already poor life even worse. In a family of six, only my grandmother and father have arable land. Due to the lack of children and the lack of materials, our family has become the poorest household among the poor. Later, first my mother went out to work to see the world, and then came back and forced my father to do business. From selling clothes at the beginning, he switched to selling department stores, and then switched to selling vegetables. The family's cave dwelling has changed from the original two holes to having an independent pit and yard, and then to living in a brick house on the plateau. The family's life has also undergone earth-shaking changes. I started my long life in 1983 crying, and my grandmother ended her life in 2003 with the crying of her children and grandchildren. The span of these twenty years is not long. Society is changing with each passing day, and rural areas are undergoing earth-shaking changes. Only those who have truly experienced the encounters and tastes have the best say. My original intention is to faithfully present the picture of these twenty years.
