This book is a collection of academic essays by Mr. Song Dejin, a historian of the Liao and Jin Dynasties, including academic notes, comments, prefaces and postscripts, memories, travel notes and other articles with different themes and styles on the history of the Liao and Jin Dynasties. This book is a summary of the author's many years of historical experience, and is also the crystallization of his thoughts on reading and understanding the world.

During the Liao, Jin, and Xixia periods, the land of China moved from division to unity. This book tells about the daily life of the Khitan, Jurchen, Dangxiang and other ethnic groups. It combines historical documents, cultural relics and archaeological results to vividly reproduce the customs, etiquette and culture of each ethnic group in clothing, food, housing and transportation during this period. It uses small things to see the big things and shows the general trend of social changes and ethnic integration.
