This is a historical novel set in Peking during the Republic of China. It tells the story of Su Jingtang, a master and apprentice at Ji'antang Pharmacy, and his apprentices, who guard a double-chi jade that hides the secret of a national treasure in troubled times. Faced with raids by Japanese invaders and coveted by pawnshops, they, together with descendants of jade craftsmen, antique dealers and other ordinary people, jointly unfold a legend of protecting cultural relics full of medicinal fragrance, suspense and sacrifice. The writing style of the work is simple and gentle, and it outlines the righteousness of family and country and the cultural integrity of ordinary people in turbulent times amidst the fireworks in the city, with a long lasting aftertaste.
