Short Fiction山河壹梦
Shanhe Yimeng
The adult world is full of worries, but in this kind of relationship that is clearly known to be fruitless, there is an almost stubborn determination. They are not young and frivolous, nor do they not know how to weigh the pros and cons. On the contrary, they understand it too well. They know the rules of society, they know the obstacles in reality, and they know that their investment may be in vain. Therefore, their "firmness" is not blind, but sober. It is the "not letting go" that they still choose after weighing the balance. The pain and determination brought about by this kind of sobriety are even more tense. "No results" and "Doing something you know you can't do". These two points are complementary to each other. "No result" is the premise, and it is the outcome they have already foreseen deep in their hearts. "Knowing that you can't do something but doing it" is their choice. This choice itself has a tragic color, but it is not completely pessimistic because it is supported by "firmness". What is this "firmness"? I think it is not an extravagant hope for the future, but a cherishment of the present. They may not want to stay together forever, but just want to have had each other before, or in other words, they just want to be warm to each other on this journey of being able to walk together.
