This book selects important English text materials from the West and uses Marxist historical materialism to introduce and even interpret them. It strives to reveal the basic conditions and characteristics of the economy, politics, military, ideology and culture, and social life in the modern period of the West at multiple levels and in an all-round way, and to reveal the evolutionary context, trends and even development laws of Western history. The selected articles in each volume include both the full text of a certain document and excerpts of the core parts of a certain document. After each document, some research works on related issues are also listed to guide readers to extend their reading and conduct further exploration.
