"On the Eastern Route" is a collection of Sirk's literary works. This book includes "On the Eastern Route", "Thirty Million Refugees", "Peasant March", "Old Countryman, Go to the Battlefield", etc. The play "Thirty Million Refugees" is based on the background of more than 200 miners in Northeast China who were bombarded by the Japanese army for helping the anti-Japanese volunteers to resist Japan. It focuses on an intellectual named Zhou Keming who accidentally met his mother and wife when he passed by a small hotel on his way to being escorted. His wife secretly gave him money and meals, but was later found and beaten to death by the Japanese soldiers. His mother also died of the beatings by the Japanese soldiers. Later, the Japanese army forced other prisoners to bury Zhou Keming alive. The work expresses the bloody and tearful accusations of 30 million people against the Japanese invaders after the fall of Northeast China. These works were mainly written during the Anti-Japanese War. Although they bear certain traces of the times, they also objectively record that changing era and have certain historical value.
