This book is one of the sequels to the New Edition of "Journey to the West". The book narrates that after Tang Monk went to the East to study for Buddhist scriptures, the true scriptures were told falsely, and Buddhist teachings became a scourge that harmed the country and the people. So during the reigns of Emperor Xianzong and Mu Zong of the Tang Dynasty, Sun Xiaodi, a young traveler, Xiaojie, the son of Zhu Bajie, and Sha Xiaodi, a disciple of Sha Seng, assisted the Dadian monk Tang Xiaoseng to return to the West to retrieve the true interpretation of the scriptures. The novel uses artistic images to illustrate the mysterious truth that "the heart is the Buddha", and is quite ironic about life and real society.
