The novel is based on the history of the Yongli regime's resistance to the Qing Dynasty in southwest China after Li Zicheng captured Beijing in 1644. It describes an ordinary boy who hates the corrupt late Ming ruling group and becomes a strangulation rebel by accident, and then becomes an official resisting the Qing Dynasty. The main force of the army experienced the Jiashen Incident and the brief flash-in-the-pan regimes of the Southern Ming Dynasty, and then used Wugang to welcome Emperor Yongli, and fought several fierce battles with the Qing army, which promoted the merger of the Great Western Army and the Nanming regime, thus transforming class confrontation into a battle to protect the homeland and the country of that era. The two women in the story are Guo Duxian's daughter Chunzhen and Princess Jingjiang.
