The book consists of four chapters with about 400,000 words. It mainly records the magnificent, twists and turns, hard-working and touching 30-year historical journey of Gaomi Red from the period of the New Democratic Revolution to the period of resisting U. S. Aggression and aiding Korea. It describes and depicts Song Guorui (Secretary of the Gaomi County Party Committee from 1927 to 1928), Xiahou Sumin (head of the 13th Regiment of the 5th Division, the main force of the Jiaodong Military Region), Shan Jiyou ("Resisting U. S. Aggression and Aid Korea"). There are more than 50 characters including revolutionary martyrs such as Fu Shutang (the founder of the high-density party organization of the Communist Party of China and former acting secretary of the Shandong Provincial Party Committee), Wang Deshun (the "Explosion Hero" of the Liberation War), Du Xiulan (a cadre of the Women's Rescue Society), Xu Xuejian (the "Funeral Soldier" of the Volunteer Army), and other old party members, veterans and ordinary people. The arduous and glorious years of many red fortress villages in the war years are reproduced in focus. This is a long reportage that writes and reflects the red history of Gaomi in the early and middle periods in a panoramic manner.
