The novel "Cooking Smoke" is set in the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China, and is divided into four parts. Part One: At the end of the Qing Dynasty, the protagonist Tang Yu had no hope in the imperial examination. He became a bandit and wanted to do justice for heaven. He met Zhao Ce during a robbery and under the influence of Zhao Ce, he devoted himself to protecting the cultural relics of Mogao Grottoes. Part Two: Guan Zheng, the second disciple of the Zhenghao Sect, drank heavily every day after his love was frustrated, causing other brothers to look down upon him. Later, Guan Zheng broke into the Japanese dojo alone and injured his master and died. He had to leave Zhenghaomen and go north to the desert. Guan met and fell in love with Aruna in the desert, and later led the grassland warriors to resist reclamation and became a great hero in the hearts of the children in Mobei. Guan Zheng was influenced by Thai boxers and returned to the Central Plains, where he died fighting against Japanese pirates. Part Three: The Japanese samurai Ichiro Yagyu came to China and discovered that his father was actually Chinese. Therefore, Yagyu Ichiro does not want Japan to invade China, nor does he want Japan to have war with China. He only hopes that Japan and China can live in peace. Ichiro Yagyu was eventually killed by the Japanese samurai Kenjiro Okamura. Part Four: The humiliation of the Japanese aggressors aroused the long-dormant bloody spirit of the Chinese people, and the Chinese people rose up to fight to protect their homes and country. Victory was achieved. The smoke from the quiet countryside may be the peaceful and contented life that the common people yearn for... "Cooking Smoke" mainly celebrates the indomitable spirit of resistance and patriotism of the Chinese people under the oppression of foreigners.
