The first five chapters sort out the research on poetry centered on five-character poems in the five periods of Jian'an, Zhengshi, Western Jin, Eastern Jin, Liu Song, and Qi and Liang according to chronological clues. The author elaborates and introduces relevant academic topics and important academic works. The sixth chapter of the book introduces the research situation of poetry in the Northern Dynasties and Sui Dynasty, and the seventh chapter is a summary of the research situation of Yuefu poetry during this period.
