The book "Walking with Reform and Opening Up - Oral History of Renmin University of China Alumni (Volume 1)" is presented to readers. It contains oral interviews with 40 alumni of the Class of 1977 and 1978, recording the ups and downs of their life trajectories, and using words to restore the academic experiences and struggle stories of 40 witnesses of reform and opening up. Due to various conditions, it is not possible to interview all alumni representatives, but these alumni included in this book do add a touch of brightness to the alumni portrait of Renmin University. Follow the footsteps of reform, listen to the voice of reform, gather energy with sincerity, and move forward vigorously. At this unique historical point in time, we feel the weight of history and witness the achievements of the new era. Reviewing history, we experience the power of faith; reading today, we witness remarkable development achievements; imagining the future, we become more confident in China's path. We encourage alumni from the Class of 1977 and 1978 to not forget our original aspirations, keep our mission in mind, and carry out reform and opening up to the end. Today, after 40 years of reform and opening up, we jointly summarize the historical experience of the reform road in order to diagnose "problems after development" and explore how modern China moves towards national rejuvenation. It is also in order to better give a new mission and direction to Renmin University, which shares the same destiny with reform. We want to take root in China and establish a world-class university. The foundation is how much our school has contributed to the nation, the country, and the development process of nations around the world. Only in this way can it have truly world-class value. We walked with the alumni of the Class of 1977 and 1978, "but wherever we came, we saw only a hint of green."
