During World War II, Germany formed a total of 19 army groups, and Army Group B was reorganized three times. In 1943, the third formation of Army Group B was completed. By 1944, it had become the "mainstay" of the Third Reich's army on the Western Front. It was the most important strategic military group supporting the entire Western Front. At its peak, its strength reached 400,000. Army Group B participated in almost every major battle on the Western Front, including the Allied landings in Normandy and the Battle of the Ruhr. In the end, it retreated steadily under the powerful Allied offensive and was eventually destroyed and the Western Front collapsed.
