"This Life: Memoirs of Grandma 1920-2020" is a life record completed by three generations of women, which is composed of a centenarian's oral account of his experiences, his daughter's transcripts, and his granddaughter's compilation. It tells the story of the rise and fall of the Gao family in Shuanggou Town, Jiangsu Province, to which the centenarian grandmother belonged in the turbulent history of the last century. It records her experience of warlord rule, Japanese invasion, and civil war, until she gradually settled into a stable life after liberation, and the ups and downs she endured in the process. The book was narrated by the grandmother, polished by the mother, and finalized by the daughter. The polishing of three generations gave the work a vivid and simple background, highlighting the unyielding and tenacity of the grandmother as an ordinary woman in facing difficult times.
