Oseba stretched out her soft branches and inserted them into the soil. The soil is thick, moist and warm. She dug the root tips into the mound, tasting the sweetness of the nutrients as they coursed through the stems. Humming with contentment, she used the whole leaf to scoop soil into the large petals, and then wrapped the petals so that the soil could be distributed throughout the spacecraft. Her mentor, Jan Desai, sang farewell and welcome songs. A rustling sound rubbed the leaves at the top of Oseba. She placed the last small bag of soil, stood up, and stepped steadily over the tangled vines on the ground, entering the dimly lit inner room. A swarm of fireflies were flying around Jan Desai.
